Kavo
Key 3 Laser
Dr. Walters and his staff know the
importance of investing in the latest technology, and
investing in the training required to provide these
advancements to our patients. We are one of only a few
practices in the Ottawa area providing laser dentistry,
and one of only a handful of offices in Ontario to offer
the Kavo Key 3 laser. Generally speaking, the benefits
of laser dentistry are as follows:
- Often eliminates the need for freezing
- No cutting or stitches required for gum surgery,
which results in less bleeding and quicker healing
time
- Results in less discomfort for cavity removal and
gum treatment
- Minimizes the need for the sound of that dental
drill!
|
What sets the Kavo laser apart from other dental lasers is the fact it has
diagnostic capabilities built in!
What this means is that when the laser is used
to remove a cavity from the tooth, it only removes
decay - and not healthy tissue.

 |
This means that our patients get the most conservative
dental treatment possible. The laser is also a terrific
alternative to some our patients who fear the dental
drill and needles because many procedures can be done
without freezing.
Laser dentistry can be used for both soft tissue (gums)
and hard tissues (teeth).
Soft Tissue
We are able to provide the following services for soft
tissue:
- Gum reshaping and contouring, often necessary for
certain cosmetic procedures
- Periodontal (gum) therapy
- Removal of small growths on the gums or lips (treatment
for cold sores)
- Removal of excess gum tissue which can cause "gummy
smiles"
Hard Tissue
Hard tissue laser dentistry includes:
- Removal of decay (cavity) within a tooth
- Preparation for fillings
- Desensitization for patients who suffer from cold
sensitivity
